  I’m going to ruin this with my knowledge from film studies. Because that’s what I do. See how in the reflection he’s looking directly at you? He’s “breaking the fourth wall”. And it’s completely on purpose. He’s directly addressing you, making complete eye contact. But he’s doing it in a way that doesn’t make you feel as if he’s staring at you. In fact, the director has propped him up intentionally so that you don’t really notice that you’re making direct eye contact with him, albeit his reflection. By doing this, he has solidified that you like this character. Through the direct address, soft coloring, and presumable pensive music, the director has established a feeling of compassion and connectivity. So now, if you didn’t like this character before, you at least feel closer to him, subconsciously. Without you even realizing, the director has forced you to relate.
